“One thing that you have to love about Ascension Parish is how often the community comes together as a whole in times of need. Accidents happen, hurricanes hit, flooding occurs, and all you see are friends, neighbors and complete strangers standing side-by-side, ready to assist. What we sometimes forget is how very beautiful our parish can be when it comes to the art of remembering; we simply don’t forget the bad things, we recognize them and ban together. We continue to live in a full faith community that still believes in family values”, stated St. Amant Fire Department Chief Officer James E. LeBlanc.

One such instance occurred on Sunday, February 21st, when the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department welcome the community to Black Bayou at noon to take part in a memorial of remembrance for two little girls who lost their lives four years ago in a tragic accident. Patience Lobell and Faith Castilaw. Their mother, Raelyn Enclave, was driving on a dark night when her car veered into the waters of Black Bayou. Searching frantically, both Enclave and emergency responders worked to get to her children, but both were unfortunately lost to the murky depths of the water. Enclade, and two other child passengers, were able to make it out of the vehicle.

For the past four years since the accident, members of the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department join together and pray at the scene of the accident. During the memorial ceremony, officiated by St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department Chaplain Ken Spivey, emergency responders and family members place flowers into the dark water and think back upon the tragic night.’

“It was a tragic event for everyone involved”, said Chief Officer James E. LeBlanc. “To try and save them everyone was our first priority, but realizing we couldn’t was a hard pill to swallow. We come here every year and remember those beautiful angels and think back upon how hard we fought to do all that we could on that night. The parish has continued to feel sadness, and we must never forget their smiling faces.”
