The St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department, along with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office Haz-Mat Team and Louisiana State Police, responded to a gasoline tanker accident at the corner of Highway 431 and Gold Place Road in St. Amant. Emergency Responders were on-scene for more than eight hours.

While making a sharp turn from Gold Place Road, the tanker struck a light pole, puncturing two of its tanks. The tanker was carrying approximately one-thousand gallons of gasoline in each tank. The tanks leaked gasoline into the ditches of St. Amant until Emergency Responders were able to stop the leaks.

Air monitoring was performed throughout the entire incident with no evacuations ordered.

Power was shut off to a large portion of the St. Amant community for several hours due to gasoline leaking near an electrical box operating the traffic signals.

“I’m so proud of the volunteer firefighters in the St. Amant that responded last night. The actions they took reassures the community and shows that training pays off”, stated Chief Officer James E. LeBlanc.
